Bassel Kelada has over 20 years of banking experience in Egypt, Europe, and the Middle East.

Bassel started his career in the United States Agency for International Development where he was quickly promoted to manage the Cairo operation of a program supporting local businesses in development, manufacturing, marketing, and financing current and new products.

In 1999, he embarked on his banking journey when he joined Citibank in Egypt as the Head of Collections. His experience in Citibank extended to a role in the group retail office in the UK where he, along with the group team, maintained oversight over retail portfolios in Europe, Middle East, and Africa. While in the UK, he was seconded to Citi’s local UK business to provide retail risk management support and consultancy. On return to Egypt, Bassel was assigned the role of Retail Risk Director as a Senior Credit Officer with oversight over Citibank Egypt Retail Risk activities.

In 2006, Bassel moved to Barclays Bank Egypt as Retail Risk Director where he was a member of the team that relaunched Barclays retail proposition and setup the necessary product, policy, operations, and technology infrastructure. In 2008 he was assigned the role of Head of Consumer Banking with oversight over all business activities including branch network.

In 2009, Bassel moved to Bank Audi as Head of Retail Risk for the local entity. In 2010 his role expanded to maintain oversight for all Bank Audi group retail portfolios as Group Head of Retail Risk, overseeing portfolios in Lebanon, Egypt, Jordan, Syria, and Turkey. In 2019, he took on the role of Chief Operating Officer for Bank Audi Egypt looking after all Operations and IT activities.

Bassel holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and Business Administration from the American University in Cairo.
