FABMISR Advances Enterprise AI Adoption
with IBM watsonx

First Abu Dhabi Bank Misr (FABMISR), one of the largest banks operating in Egypt, announced its adoption of technologies and solutions from (NYSE: IBM) to advance the deployment of enterprise-grade artificial intelligence through IBM’s watsonx portfolio, in a move that enables the bank to enhance productivity, strengthen decision-making, and scale AI capabilities within a secure, governed operating model built for regulated financial environments.

As financial institutions scale AI beyond experimentation, they must address complex operational and regulatory requirements. FABMISR identified key opportunities to enhance its operations, including streamlining internal knowledge repositories, optimizing analytical processes, expanding on-premises GPU capacity, and advancing explainable AI capabilities in line with governance and compliance standards.

By leveraging IBM’s technologies and solutions, FABMISR implemented an enterprise-grade AI platform within its on-premises infrastructure, leveraging the full capabilities of IBM’s watsonx portfolio to support the full AI lifecycle within a unified framework. At the core of this platform, watsonx.ai enables the development and deployment of AI models and agents tailored to FABMISR’s banking use cases. Complementing this, watsonx Orchestrate enables secure enterprise knowledge access, AI agent integration, and workflow automation—supporting FABMISR’s vision for an intelligent, agent-driven operating model.

The solution was pioneered by IBM Client Engineering and delivered end-to-end by IBM Expert Labs, combining co-creation, rapid prototyping, and enterprise deployment expertise. By maintaining AI workloads and data within the bank’s-controlled environment, FABMISR meets stringent security, governance, and compliance requirements while accelerating innovation.

As part of this effort, FABMISR has introduced production-ready AI solutions that support knowledge accessibility, operational efficiency, and data-driven decision-making across the organization. These include a retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) AI agent that provides secure and explainable access to enterprise knowledge, as well as a Financial Analyst AI agent built on watsonx.ai, designed to enhance financial analysis and generate timely, actionable insights.

“Financial institutions are moving beyond AI experimentation toward operational deployment that delivers measurable business value. Achieving this shift requires architecture built on trust, governance, and hybrid flexibility,” said Tamer El Kholy, General Manager, IBM Egypt and North East Africa. “With watsonx, FABMISR is implementing AI in a way that aligns innovation with regulatory requirements and data sovereignty, demonstrating how banks can scale agentic AI responsibly while maintaining control, transparency, and resilience.”

Additionally, with IBM watsonx, financial institutions can introduce domain-specific AI assistants and agents across key business and support functions, including retail banking, SME banking, corporate banking, risk, compliance, HR, and IT. By augmenting employees with trusted AI, organizations can enhance decision-making, streamline operations, increase productivity, and unlock greater business value.

Shaarawy Mohamed, Chief Technology Officer at FABMISR, said: “We believe the conversation around AI has moved beyond experimentation. The real challenge today is identifying where AI can create meaningful business value and operational impact at scale. At FABMISR, our strategy is focused on leveraging AI, Generative AI, and emerging Agentic AI capabilities to empower our employees, support management decision-making, enhance customer experiences, and drive sustainable growth. Through our collaboration with IBM, we are building the foundation for an intelligent banking operating model where technology is applied with clear purpose, strong governance, and measurable outcomes. Our objective is not simply to deploy AI, but to embed it responsibly into the way we operate, serve our customers, and create value for all stakeholders.”
